Los Angeles-based, Chinese-Italian singer-songwriter Isabella Han-Bolelli has just shared her brand new single Purple Temptress, a theatrical pop-rock song with dark touches.
The follow up to the playful Flirting With Fire, Purple Temptress comes just in time for Halloween, opening with a slow roll of thunder before Isabella’s powerhouse vocals once again take centre stage. A song about a temptress, a witch, a woman who must burn for wanting to live on her own terms. I am really enjoying the bluesy touches in the song and how there's a theatrical vibe in the song that makes it stand out even more. I am very fond of the spacious drums, killer bass, organ keys and rhythms that come together to create a dramatic and confident atmosphere and slightly dangerous energy perfect for this spooky season.
Isabella says,
If “Immoral Bitch” is a rebellious teenage girl, “Purple Temptress” is the shadow of the woman she could become. The song’s narrator is left intentionally mysterious. Her morality is not explicitly explored; the point is that she could be anyone. She is not even given a name–she is one of the many women who society has reduced to a label. Temptress, witch, a woman who must burn for wanting to live on her own terms. The song is certainly a fun, bluesy listen, but it is also a reflection of the times. The notion of witches being burned can feel like an ugly memory, something we read in history books, but it’s still happening–we’ve just gotten better at hiding the smoke.
