British artist Amelia Coburn returns with her brand new single I Just Want To Say, an upbeat indie-pop song out now via Wipe Out Music.
The first single to be taken from her upcoming sophomore album, I Just Want To Say is a romantic declaration of love inspired by the intense attraction some people feel towards criminals. A song about loving someone completely and unapologetically regardless of their past or reputation. This bold song about choosing someone wholeheartedly is beautifully conveyed through Coburn's smooth, expressive vocals which glide confidently over the upbeat production. Accompanying her gorgeous vocals we have lush acoustic guitar plucks that are seamlessly intertwined with punchy drum beats, soaring electric guitars, memorable strings and rhythms that come together to create an overall fun and energetic listening experience.
Speaking about the song Amelia explains,
‘I Just Want to Say’ was inspired by hybristophilia - the intense attraction some people feel towards criminals. Writing the song made me examine some of my own past relationships and realise how I would go for the ‘bad boy’ and romanticise all their flaws and red flags. Where is the line between love, lust and obsession, and how far would you go for the person you believe is the love of your life? It also made me question our fixation with true crime documentaries. We’re fascinated by what makes someone a monster, but what does that fascination reveal about us? The song is written from the perspective of an unreliable narrator: a woman writing love letters to a serial killer. But as the song unfolds, it becomes clear that it’s not a typical love song, and less clear who the dangerous one really is. It’s an exploration of how love can become possessive, destructive and all-consuming.
