Ruby Gill Unveils New Single ‘Porchlight’

South Africa-born, Australia-based musician and poet Ruby Gill unveils her brand new single Porchlight, the final single from her upcoming, highly-anticipated third album Fishing is not about fishing, out everywhere on 16th October.

Porchlight is a very lesbian love song about learning how to live with someone, and all of the old triggers and fears they bring with them. A beautifully honest and tender portrait of a relationship going through a difficult stretch; about loving someone through the hard times and trusting that it won't always feel this way. A deeply honest and vulnerable storytelling that is beautifully conveyed through Gill's rich, expressive vocals which glide effortlessly over delicate piano keys, subtle bass, steady drum patterns and rhythms that come together to create an overall warm, heartfelt listening experience.

Speaking of the track, Ruby says,
When my partner and I started dating, we did something very gay which was to constantly trigger each other in an unending stack of triggers, and then gently try and rewrite our nervous systems with each other, one ghost at a time. This song was about hoping that there was a time one day when the past wouldn’t live in the present, when we would be able to see each other for exactly who we are and not the image of past people superimposed over us. It is about loving a real person.
