Gold Spectacles Unveil New Single ‘Lothario’

London-based collaborative multi-instrumentalist, songwriting and producing duo Gold Spectacles are back with a lovely new single titled Lothario, their first offering in a year of studio-hibernation.

Lothario is a smooth indie-pop with a nostalgic spanish guitar providing the foundation to the track with chopped up guitar riffs, a lazy upright piano and bells sampled from a local church. I am really enjoying those lush vocals and how they instantly draw the listener's attention to the relatable storytelling.

Lothario is a song that represents a person who, beyond their kind exterior, is not entirely trustworthy. Check out this lovely song below!

Speaking about the song, Gold Spectacles said,

We like to write a certain degree of juxtaposition into our songs. ‘Lothario’ is an upbeat track on the surface but if you dig deeper, you discover it’s riddled with dark undertones and flawed characters. This reflects the narrator's blind love for Lothario despite his obvious insincerity.

We wrote ‘Lothario’ in Norwegian countryside just before lockdown and completed the final version at our own studio, Gold Spectacles HQ, a few months later. The isolation of 2020 allowed us to reflect on the core elements of the track and strip away any distractions.
