American singer and songwriter Lily Vakili has just shared her brand new single Heart's Afire, a smooth Blues/Rock cut taken from her upcoming Live Wire EP which is out on May 8th.
What I like the most about this song is how heartfelt and warm it sounds, with Vakili's rich, expressive vocals commanding our attention from start to finish. Heart's Afire finds the talented artist singing about a love that consumed everything and left nothing behind when it was gone. It also shows a bittersweet reckoning with the idea that some wild, electric loves were never meant to be kept. A relatable storytelling beautifully conveyed through Lily Vakili's gorgeous vocals which are accompanied by a killer bass nicely intertwined with lush guitar plucks and steady drum beats, together creating an overall warm, intimate atmosphere.
Speaking about the song, Lily Vakili said,
The simplicity of love astounds me, and I write about it a lot – wait, so maybe it isn’t so simple? I find that writing and singing a song about love allows for a kind of expression that is much harder in day-to-day life. In the most intense moments of being in love, I have felt like my heart is “afire”, not just “on fire”, but “afire”, which – to me, at least – has a more all-consuming meaning. The experience of love lost has a way of radically intensifying that burning sensation. Reflection on a lost lover conjures up metaphors and memories: burning branches and lost seasons, yes, but also the back seat of a ’59 Chevy and all that once transpired there.
