ORKID Shares New Single ‘Where Flowers Grow’

ORKID, the moniker of Swedish singer and songwriter Matilda Melin, has just shared her brand new single Where Flowers Grow, a melancholia-infused piece of indie-pop music out now via Warner Music Sweden.

Building on the EP’s theme of exploring grief, Where Flowers Grow first came to life after ORKID visited her mother’s grave where spawned the lyric “where flowers grow.” The new single perfectly mirrors the “blend of beauty and sadness” ORKID perceives about such an experience. A heartfelt storytelling flawlessly delivered through ORKID's rich, honeyed vocals which are paired with co-writer Le's raw, emotive vocals which make the song an even more profound listening experience. I am loving their vocals and harmonies and how they are beautifully backed by steady drum patterns which are seamlessly intertwine with a tremolo drenched guitar and warm rhythms that together create an overall warm, melancholic listening experience packed with heart and soul.

Speaking about the song, ORKID said,
My mom’s grave is the one place where I feel closest to her and can sense her presence. Even though she's the one lying beneath the earth, it feels like a huge part of me is also buried with her. We wanted this song to resonate with anyone who deeply misses someone. ‘Where flowers grow’ can symbolise a person or a place, but at its heart, the song is about not being alone in that longing.
