The North Coast Band Share New Single ‘Ohio In The Distance’

Canadian band The North Coast Band have just shared their brand new single Ohio In The Distance, a lovely piece of Canadiana storytelling.

What I like the most about this song is its earthy and warm atmosphere, that instantly got me in a good mood and wanting to go out and explore nature. Written on Pelee Island in the Summer of 2020, just as a guitar riff and chorus, Ohio In The Distance was first about the inaccessibility the pandemic had created close neighboring borders such as Ohio is to the Erie Isles of Ontario. It also tells the story of a captain that had to retreat back to the Ontario mainshore over the frozen Lake Erie as the Americans took the island over during a brief time in the war of 1812.

This gives the songs two meanings, and constructed nicely together as both characters in the song would not be able to get to Ohio one way or another. This tale is beautifully conveyed through lush, expressive vocals that are wrapped around a polished folk/americana production with intricate guitar riffs and steady drum patterns that create an overall warm, laid-back atmosphere.
