Following the successs of her previous singles Calm and Headache, British Arabic artist Hemes has just shared her brand new single Faking a smile, the last single to be taken from her upcoming debut EP, Matters of the Mind, set to arrive this Friday, November 26th.
Co-written and produced by grammy nominated singer/songwriter Daniel John Eans, Faking a smile explores the concept of hiding feelings and how behind a smile, and how often mental health is masked on the surface when someone looks okay. This is a very relatable message and is beautifully conveyed through Hemes' lovely vocals which glide beautifully over the polished electro-pop production. I am very fond of the cheerful guitar that is nicely paired with with electrical soundscapes, alongside bittersweet harmonies and euphoric beats, creating an overall warm atmosphere. Check it out below!
Speaking about the track Hemes says,
I used to put some makeup on an instantly act like I was okay, and I decided to use this concept in the song because often there's more than what meets the eye, sometimes the happiest person can actually be really struggling inside so I wanted to raise more awareness around this. I wanted the production itself to feel more cheerful, with darker lyrics in order to really capture the contradicting feelings in the song.
