Fright Years Unveil New Single ‘Dye Star’

British band Fright Years have just unveiled their brand new single Dye Star, an upbeat indie rock gem. 

 

The second single to be lifted from their forthcoming EP, due February 2027 via LAB Records, Dye Star follows the infectious indie-pop gem Never Been Wrong, and finds the band teaming up with producer Pete Hutchings (Royal Blood, Gang of Youths, The Amazons) which helped them realise a more layered sound. Dye Star explores the cycle of self-fashioning, the space between trying on different versions of yourself and finally stepping into the one you recognise. It's a poetic, thought-provoking song about longing, identity and the restless human need to know when enough is finally enough. 

 

A message that is conveyed through rich, emotionally-charged vocals which soar passionately over the upbeat production, capturing my attention from the start. I love that voice and how it is nicely paired with lush strings that are then joined by soaring guitar riffs, punchy drum patterns and bright textures that come together to create an epic, anthemic listening experience!

Speaking about the song, Jules Kelly said,

Dye Star is the journey towards trusting your own vision and having the courage to stand by your decisions. Lyrically it questions how many versions of yourself there will be before you feel fulfilled, and why happiness can stem from something small on one day and be reserved for a grand vision of yourself on another. The song doesn't give an answer, because I don't have one yet, but repeating the question to the end, 'how do I know when I get what I want', makes the unknown feel brighter.
