Ezra Vancil Unveils New Single ‘Ballad of Young Gray’

American singer-songwriter Ezra Vancil has just unveiled his brand new single Ballad of Young Gray, a warm and comforting indie-folk song. 

 

Taken from his upcoming 20-song double album Morning & Midnight, Ballad of Young Gray is inspired by a portrait of one of his relatives named Gray and finds the talented artist creating a tragic love story: a boy goes off to war before he has ever truly known love. He writes to a girl back home, dreaming of everything he will do when he returns, but slowly realizes he may never live long enough to know the gentler, softer side of life. It's a heartbreaking and deeply human song about love, regret and the unbearable weight of the things left unsaid. 

 

A heartfelt storytelling which is beautifully conveyed through Vancil's rich, expressive vocals which are accompanied by delicate backing vocals from his daughter Cozi, lush mandolin strums, steady drum beats, subtle guitar plucks and bass that come together to create an overall warm, intimate listening experience.
