Malaika Explores Heartbreak and Self-Discovery on ‘Simple Like That’

London based singer-songwriter Malaika has just shared her brand new single Simple Like That, a captivating alt-pop cut that explores heartbreak and self-discovery.

Taken from her debut EP Dye My Hair Dark In The Summer, which is out now, Simple Like That follows on from “Pretty Pretty Thing”, “Real Deal” and “External Things” and finds the talented artist continuing th showcase her run of upbeat, vibrant indie pop; but beneath the surface, there’s something more reflective at play.

This is a song about the painful gap between words and actions in a relationship with one being exhausted by someone who says they care but repeatedly disappears, avoids accountability and doesn't show up emotionally when it matters most. It's a realisation that real love isn't complicated as consistency, honesty, and effort show come naturally if the feelings are genuine. A relatable storytelling beautifully conveyed through Malaika's smooth, enchanting vocals and layered harmonies which are accompanied by killer bass nicely intertwined with steady drum patterns, bright, expansive synths and rhythms that come together to create an overall upbeat, yet reflective listening experience perfect for a laid-back weekend.
