Canadian Folk/Americana artist Noah Derksen shares his brand new single Mercy on the Skyline, a heartfelt Americana/Alt-Country song.
The title track from his upcoming album, which comes out on May 21st, Mercy on the Skyline finds the talented artist teaming up with American singer-songwriter Lori Mckenna and gifting us with an introspective and warm piece of music. This is a reflection on growing up and letting go of the dreams of youth, whilst still holding onto hope that something big and meaningful is just around the corner. There's touches of bittersweet honesty in the song when they acknowledge shattered illusions and the humbling realisation that you're not so different from everyone else. In the end it shares a hopeful touch of being brave enough to wait for something better to come up. A relatable storytelling flawlessly conveyed through Derksen and McKenna's gorgeous, expressive vocals which glide effortlessly over steady drum beats, catchy guitar and bass plucks, lush piano and organ keys and rhythms that come together to create an overall warm, intimate atmosphere with an introspective touch.
Speaking about the song, Noah Derksen said,
I wrote this song just before my 30th birthday, first writing the chorus one evening in Nashville, then uncovering the story of the song with Brian McKenna and Tamara Laurel. I look at it now and see this deep reflection of my 20s: of the dreams I’d had and of love I’d lost. All the while staring forward into this next decade of life, seeing the “mercy” up ahead: the letting go of past pains, if only I could let myself be so brave. It still fills me with a sense of catharsis. I hope it does the same for you.
