Turner Cody Shares New Single ‘Cigarettes Inside’
American indie, anti folk singer-songwriter Turner Cody shares his brand new single Cigarettes Inside, a raw and intimate indie-folk gem out now via cult Belgian, French indie label Capitane Records.
Taken from his upcoming album Out For Blood, due February 2026, Cigarettes Inside is a tender ballad of middle-age disappointment, regret, and camaraderie, effortlessly giving us a glimpse into his most elemental songwriting. The song tells the story of four musicians on the night of a gig in Nashville played to an empty room, suggesting there's still joy to be found in all the heartache.
This mournful ballad features a simple acoustic arrangement with Clement Nourry's delicate guitar accompaniment and Ted Clark on electric bass, beautifully creating the perfect soundscape for Cody's smooth, expressive vocals to soar. Cigarettes Inside is a raw and intimate ballad perfect for a laid-back weekend alone! Check it out below!
Speaking about the song, Turner Cody said,
I wrote this song pretty much as the story happened. It was the last show I played before the Covid Pandemic and may have been the worst attended show of my 20-year career. Anyone who's ever played Nashville knows that the Music City isn't always welcoming to outsiders and that night was no exception. All we had was each other. The only thing that saved the night was the Three Crow Bar, a Nashville dive that somehow, miraculously, allowed indoor smoking! So, we drank beer and smoked inside just like the old days. We talked about old times and had some good laughs and for that brief moment all was well with the world.
