Wax Owls Share New Single ‘Freckle’

Los Angeles indie-folk trio Wax Owls share their brand new single Freckle, a lovely, captivating indie-folk song.

What I like the most about this song is its warmth and how soothing and comforting it sounds, with Gerry Hirschfeld's gorgeous, expressive vocals gliding effortlessly over the heartwarming production. Freckle finds the band exploring the complexities on our relationships, touching on themes of reconciliation, regret, and acceptance. Apart from Hirschfeld's soaring falsetto and harmonies, I am particularly fond of the intricate acoustic guitar riffs which are seamlessly intertwined with delicate piano keys that come together to create an overall warm, intimate atmosphere perfect for an introspective day home alone.

Vocalist Gerry Hirschfeld says on the track,
‘Freckle’ ultimately becomes a meditation reflecting on our past decisions, intimacy, and the tension between pursuing passion and embracing practicality. Throughout the song, there's a sense of introspection and a willingness to confront truths, even when they're uncomfortable. Musically, this song has been through many incarnations before we settled on this version. I was heavily inspired by Elliot Smith in how I wanted to treat the vocal production. I think it adds a layer of vulnerability that reinforces the lyrical themes and enhances the sparseness of the rest of the production, which stands in contrast to a lot of our other songs.
