modernlove. Share New Single ‘Don’t Feel Myself’

Irish indie-pop-rockers modernlove., made up of Barry Lally (vocalist and guitarist), Cian McCluskey (drummer), Daniel Rooney (bass), and Graham Fagan (guitarist), are back with their first single of the year, Don't Feel Myself.

Out now on Akira Records, Don't Feel Myself finds the band teaming up with long-time collaborator/producer Tom Leach and gifting us with an upbeat yet nostalgic production that constrasts with the lyrical content. The song explores a turbulent period of existential crisis and the questionable coping mechanisms that came alongside it. A relatable storytelling about mental-health issues and life experience via a youthful lens that is flawlessly conveyed through Barry Lally's passionate vocals which exude so much soul and emotion that instantly makes us feel every word he is singing. I am really enjoying how energetic and upbeat the production is, with soaring, dizzying guitar hooks, killer bass and punchy drums creating a danceable, feel-good atmosphere that contrasts with the lyrical content. This is one of those songs perfect to play when you want to unwind after a stressful day and just let all the pain out while singing along to it.

When asked about the inspiration behind the song, modernlove. explained,
Don’t Feel Myself is about going through bouts of disassociation, existential crisis and having a crisis of identity compounded with unhealthy lifestyle choices and coping mechanisms. It explores these themes through an analogous story of a ‘mad night out’ in which we drunkenly stumble through a number of different shady settings and wrestle with all kinds of troubles/situations from panic attacks and derealisation to bursts of mania that inevitably end up in us being consumed with existential dread the morning after.
