Ian Lake Shares New Single ‘Fishing for Promises’
Canadian singer and songwriter Ian Lake has just shared his brand new single Fishing For Promises, the latest single to be taken from his upcoming debut album What It Is, set to arrive on April 22nd.
I am la fan of Ian Lake's rich, expressive vocals which are packed with so much soul and raw emotion, beautifully connecting us to his relatable storytelling. Fishing for Promises is a piano and cello ballad, about feeling misunderstood, and the imagined conversations that come out of it. It is easily his most raw and vulnerable song to date and is wrapped around such a memorable production that effortlessly creates quite a warm and intimate atmosphere perfect for an introspective weekend at home. Apart from his powerful, textured vocals, what I like the most about this song is the emotive piano chords, lush strings and touches of melancholia that really fit my mood at the moment.
Accompanying the release, Ian Lake has shared its official music video, directed by Natty Zavitz, which beautifully embodies the song's message and warmth. Check it out below!
Speaking about the song, Ian Lake said,
The song is about unrequited love, and feeling misunderstood. It’s an imagined conversation that will never take place. What would I say if I actually got the chance to explain myself to the person who’s been occupying my mind? The song is equal parts clinging to hope, and calmly accepting whatever comes.
