Cathal Murphy Shares New Single ‘Lilac Eyes’
Northern Irish singer, songwriter and guitarist Cathal Murphy has just shared his brand new single Lilac Eyes, the lead single of his debut EP, I’m writing to you it can be lonely and beautiful at the edges of print, out now.
Speaking about the EP, Cathal Murphy said,
The songs collectively talk about one relationship and its eventual demise. The title of the EP comes from the idea of feeling momentary comfort in writing about this now past relationship. Fixated on this one person still, watching how well they are doing and feeling a little bit left behind - like a sad proudness.
I am loving Cathal Murphy's effortless storytelling and how his warm vocals glide beautifully over the warm production. Lilac Eyes is a relatable song about how someone's mood can affect your own and as a moody man I completely relate to this song. I am particularly fond of the acoustic guitar riffs that are nicely intertwined with lush piano chords and gorgeous electric guitar plucks that create an overall warm and intimate atmosphere that makes Lilac Eyes perfect for a relaxing day at home. Speaking about the song, Cathal Murphy said,
‘Lilac Eyes’ is a song about how someone’s mood can have a huge impact on your own. It’s about mental health and if we want to get specific, it's about lockdown. There’s a line “all I want to know is that you’re happier than you are sad”. That pretty much sums up the song.
