Old Kid, the moniker of Canadian/UK singer-songwriter Darryl Webster, has just unveiled his brand new single This is All Just Waiting, a captivating piece of indie/folk music about those struggling feelings and uncertainty that too often comes with a change in direction.
This is All Just Waiting marks a departure from his previous work as it encompasses more electronic sounds such was layered synths and a thumping kick drum contrasted by driving acoustic guitar. This new sonority creates quite a cinematic atmosphere on which his gorgeous vocals and songwriting soar effortlessly. It's that thumping kick drum that got me hooked to the song which is beautifully paired with lush synths and delicate piano keys on which his rich vocals soar and give a hypnotic touch to this somewhat introspective piece of music. I’ve always wanted to try singing a folk-style vocal over top of layered synths and a pounding bass drum. I’m not sure what held me back, I mean what holds any of us back from exploring those areas outside of our comfort zone.
