Paris-based, French-Colombian electronic pop duo Mandarina, consisting of Colombian singer-songwriter Paola Olarte and French Keyboard player and producer Michael Tainturier, have just shared their brand new single Miel.
I am loving the hypnotic atmosphere of this song and how Paola's smooth vocals flow effortlessly over the infectious electronic production packed with lush synths and subtle electric guitar riffs. There is also a soulful and sensual touch to the song that keeps me coming back to it over and over again. Miel is the perfect marriage of electronic music with hip hop influences and syncopated latin percussions, sounding both modern and retro at the same time.
To accompany the release, Mandarina shared the Cedric Audinot-directed music video which you can check out below!
Speaking about Miel, Mandarina said,
"Miel" is an electronic soul track sung in spanish with deep afro-cuban influences. It's a slow and melancholic song about mothers both in a very personal sense and in the sense of "la Pacha Mama" (Mother Nature) and lyrically, it deals with gratitude, admiration and loss. Rhythmically, it combines a downtempo beat rooted in hip hop influences, and faster paced syncopated latin percussions. We believe it is as retro as it is modern with its usage of soulful guitars and analog synths as well as the effects, tools and aesthetics of the digital age.
Mixing Paola's latin roots, Michael's electronic music savviness and both of their 60's and 70's influences resulted in a soulful pop full of sensuality and melancholy.
