Montreal-based artist JoJo Worthington has just shared her brand new single Dig A Bone, a dark, dreamy reflection on childhood and maternal love.
Taken from her ethereal alt-folk EP BAPTIZED II, Dig A Bone finds the talented artist revisiting a teenage memory through the lens of adulthood. It draws from a childhood incident of sneaking out on a school night. The shame and anger of being caught, and a mother’s instinct to protect her daughter.
A delicate, heartfelt song that is beautifully conveyed through Worthington's gorgeous, dreamy vocal delivery which glides effortlessly over the captivating production. Accompanying her ethereal-like vocals we have an intricate harp arrangement (performed by JoJo's mother) which is nicely intertwined with subtle drum beats, gentle banjo, bandolin and guitar strums, lush piano keys and echoing backing vocals that come together to create an overall haunting and intimate listening experience.
Speaking about the song, Worthington said,
My mom has always been a reflection of God’s character. It’s about seeing all the good in her and wrestling with my own spiritual beliefs and working through these childhood events as an adult in romantic relationships. It was a huge honour to feature her on this song. We have always been very close and I love her deeply. She’s always been my number one supporter.
