Kimaya Diggs Drops New Single ‘Plants (Still Grow)’

Western Massachusetts musician, songwriter, poet, producer, and world-builder Kimaya Diggs has just dropped her brand new single Plants (Still Grow), the latest single from her forthcoming album Green, out October 2nd. 

 

Plants (Still Grow) is a retro-soul love letter to New England summer and the kind of intimacy that can make a place feel briefly, unmistakably like home. It's a song about place, desire, memory, and the chosen communities that make outsiders feel less alone. A message flawlessly conveyed through Kimaya's enchanting, soulful vocals which are accompanied by delicate guitar plucks, steady drum beats, subtle rhythms, gentle bass and textures that come together to create an overall soulful, laid-back listening experience. The accompanying music video, directed by Eli Howe, extends that world visually, grounding the song in the New England landscape that runs throughout Green.

Speaking about her forthcoming album, Kimaya Diggs said,

So much of Green explores the concept of home: does a sense of belonging come from intimately knowing the land that you inhabit, or does it come from the people you surround yourself with? For me, it’s a little of both, and it oscillates over time: my sense of community evolves. When I think of the album as a whole, I imagine my backyard, where most of the music video was filmed. I see the black walnut tree, the jewelweed, pokeweed, wild lettuce, and so much more. The fireflies that I’ve worked hard to cultivate a habitat for, and the red squirrels. It’s a place I know like the back of my hand, and a source of endless joy and peace.
