Zarema Shares Haunting Single ‘Child's Prayer’

Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and actress of Crimean Tatar descent, Zarema has just shared her haunting new single Child's Prayer, an epic, orchestral gem. 

 

Inspired by a true story Zarema encountered while working on a Netflix documentary about refugee children affected by war, Zarema is a song that honours refugee childrem who have lost parents or suffered life-altering injuries in war. Child's Prayer also reflects the songwriter's own experiences growing up as a member of the marginalized Crimean Tatar community, whose history is marked by genocide and forced exile. The project was produced by Grammy-winning composer Kitt Wakeley, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra recording the song at Abbey Road Studios. 

 

A song that is beautifully conveyed through Zarema's enchanting vocals which are accompanied by delicate piano keys, lush strings and orchestral elements that create a memorable and enthralling listening experience that shines a light to the ongoing humanitarian crisis facing tens of thousands of children injured, orphaned, or displaced by armed conflict around the world.

Speaking about the song, Zarema said,

I am deeply grateful to Kitt Wakeley, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and Abbey Road Studios for bringing this song to life. Their extraordinary contributions have added depth and emotional power to a piece dedicated to the world's orphaned and amputee refugee children, young lives that deserve far greater attention and compassion. Despite these devastating realities, the needs of these children continue to receive far too little attention and support. As I have said in previous interviews about my earlier song, I Hold You Child, which was also dedicated to refugee children: ‘No child's heart should beat in fear, and no child's eyes should ever see the horrors of war.
