Sweetbreads Unveils New Single ‘Open Mic’

Sweetbreads, the project of New York City-based singer and songwriter Melody Stolpp, has just unveiled her brand new single Open Mic, a haunting and heartfelt indie-folk gem out now via Lady Beefcake. 

 

Taken from her forthcoming debut album, Punisher of Love, out September 25, Open Mic finds the talented artist exploring the ways people cope with pain, search for connection, and try to make sense of one another’s struggles. It highlights how we all carry invisible weight and pain through ordinary spaces, and the quiet regret of not saying something when we had the chance. A message that is beautifully conveyed through Sweetbreads's captivating, emotionally-rich vocals which are accompanied by lush guitar riffs, steady drum beats, rich atmospheric elements, catchy rhythms and textures that come together to create an overall warm and heartfelt listening experience.

Speaking about the song, Sweetbreads said,

I was sitting in this dingy dive bar waiting hours for my turn to play one song amongst a sea of people who were there for the same reason. I felt kind of pathetic and self-involved chasing what seemed like a dying dream. Watching my friend struggle made me think about my own obsessions and addictions, and the things we all cling to in order to escape reality.
