Speaking about the single, montana says,

I wrote ‘ride or die’ after a massive argument with my now ex-boyfriend where we almost broke up. To me it's almost a combination of self-reflection – an inner narrative of my mind of how I know I always go for the wrong guys and how toxic environments feel familiar to me based on pattern – and just asking the universe, ‘Is this right for me?’ It's almost like a message directly saying that I will fight for what I care for. It's about being torn between two worlds and whether this person is truly the person I will be with forever, or whether I’m just going to keep getting hurt, and that no matter what, I will keep fighting and trying to make it work. It is very push and pull and contradictory in points which I tried to reflect with the minor to major chord changes in the chorus and verses.'ride or die' came straight from pure emotion, heartbreak and vulnerability that I was able to channel and pour into a song.
