The Host Club Drop New Single ‘Whiskey (Backseat)’

Denver-based indie folk/pop band The Host Club have just dropped their brand new single Whiskey (Backseat), a stripped-down folk song that explores the ache of unrequited longing. 

 

Taken from their upcoming album Ache, Whiskey (Backseat) is a bittersweet song about a love that both know will never become anything more. It's a song about loving someone who was never really yours to keep, and holding on to moments whilst accepting the other person doesn't feel the same as you do. A raw and honest story that is flawlessly conveyed through Aaron's expressive, emotionally-charged vocals which are accompanied by a sparse guitar, gentle piano keys and haunting pedal steel, together creating an overall warm, melancholic atmosphere perfect for a laid-back weekend.

Speaking about the song, singer Aaron Elrod said,

Writing this song was quite a bit different for me, as I usually write songs in retrospect. 'whiskey (backseat)' was really wrenched out of me in the midst of heartache. It was easy to get the right vocal, because the pang of longing for this person was very much with me during the recording process. I wanted it to be a stripped-down song, to really leave room for the performance. Aaron Fabrini added just the right amount of ache in his haunting pedal steel, and my mixer, Jeff Kanan, really made it shine. It's going to be on our upcoming record, Ache, and it really established the tone for the whole thing.
