Speaking about the song, Mapei said,

Sometimes we do not know how or why songs come to us. It feels like the cosmos, where spirituality meets consciousness. My way of creating is very raw, direct and improvised. What came to me in the song ‘The Greatest’ was, first and foremost, positive self-talk. I was on the verge of spiraling into a dark place, but as the sun was shining, the lyrics and melody to this song came to me and saved me. Music always does that for me. My conscious and inner child, if you will, told me to state my voice and showed me comfort. The song aged like fine wine, and eventually it was time to write a rap verse because I felt that was what was missing. I wanted to share a message. I am tired of the doom that is instilled in this world. I have friends from all cultures and all walks of life. I would rather contribute to art, and to people, with peace and love instead.
