Fia James Shares New Single ‘spotless state of mind’

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Fia James has just shared the official music video for her latest single spotless state of mind, a dreamy, chilled-out alt pop song.
The title track of her debut EP, which is out now via IsThisThingOn?, spotless state of mind nods to the enduring 2004 indie drama and Fia’s favorite film, The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. What I like the most about this song is how smooth, yet powerful her vocals are, soaring effortlessly over the captivating production. This is a song about being stuck in a cycle of self-sabotage, avoiding real reflection in favour of quick fixes and dramatics. A brutally honest song about being your own biggest obstacle and the eternal, looping frustration of staying stuck in old habits.
A relatable storytelling that is flawlessly conveyed through Fia James's stellar vocal performance which is accompanied by intricate guitar lines nicely intertwined with steady drum beats, ethereal rhythms and synths that come together to create an overall warm, laid-back atmosphere perfect for a relaxing weekend. This gem is accompanied by a striking music video, directed by Natalie Sakstrup, which you can check out below!
Fia James commented,
‘spotless state of mind’ feels like romanticizing your own collapse in real time. It’s about memory, ego, longing, and trying to make something beautiful out of the train wreck. It took me over a year to make this record, and I couldn’t be prouder of it. There’s something really peaceful about finally letting it go and allowing other people to have it now, to interpret it for themselves. In a strange way, making this EP felt like wiping the slate clean. Like degaussing myself.
