Rising Brooklyn-based indie artist Alaina May has just dropped her brand new single Casual, a chilled-out indie-pop gem. 

 

Produced by indie-rock duo TOLEDO, Casual arrives as the first glimpse into a new chapter for Alaina May, pairing melodic, atmospheric production with her soft, disarming vocal delivery. This song explores how loneliness and emotional vulnerability can make temporary intimacy feel deeper than it really is, making one confusing intense attachment and limerence with genuine connection. In the end, it's a song that tried to keep love casual but realises that at their core they are just not wired for such things as they experience emotions too deeply. 

 

A song beautifully conveyed through Alaina May's enchanting vocals which are accompanied by intricate guitar plucks, steady drum beats and delicate rhythms that come together to create an overall warm, intimate atmosphere perfect for a laid-back, introspective day.

Speaking about the song, Alaina May said,

‘Casual’ lives in that space where you mistake limerence for real connection. After something ends, even the smallest moments of closeness feel heightened and intoxicating because they’re fill a vulnerable void. You can be completely self-aware—naming the pattern, recognizing the push and pull—and still not be able to stop yourself from getting pulled in. It’s that tension between wanting something light and realizing that, at my core, I’m just not wired for ‘casual.’
