Brooklyn based duo The Bergamot, consisting of husband and wife Jillian Speece & Nathaniel Paul Hoff, have just shared their brand new single Beauty That We See, the first offering from their upcoming album Give Love Away, due out August 22 via AWAL / The Orchard / Sony.
A sweeping collaboration with the Notre Dame Children’s Choir, Beauty That We See is a sonic tapestry of cinematic arrangements, soaring vocals, and poignant lyricism, co-created by Matt Wiggins (producer for Glass Animals, Adele, and Coldplay), Nathaniel Paul, Jillian Speece, and Mark Doerries, Artistic Director of the NDCC.
This is a smooth, uplifting reflection on growing up and finding wonder in the world, encouraging mindfulness, kindness and hope, reminding listeners that beauty is found in simple moments and dreams. A gem evocative of childhood wonder and the lessons we gather as we grow, a message beautifully conveyed through Jillian and Nathaniel's smooth, expressive vocals which are effortlessly accompanied by Notre Dame Children's Choir harmonies. I am really enjoying the warmth of the song and how it features steady drum beats, sun-soaked guitar strums and cool rhythms that create a soothing and laid-back atmosphere perfect for relaxing summer's day!
Speaking about the song, Nathaniel Paul said,
Jillian Speece added,
I really wanted this song to illustrate to the listener that we must continue to build a future we believe in. If you can dream it, one day you’ll see it right outside. It's a message that’s being overshadowed in today’s world. I wanted to shine a light on being the warrior — not the victim. We have to continue to strive for a better future.
Jillian Speece added,
The moment the Notre Dame Children’s Choir entered the studio to record, something transcendent happened. “Hearing the children sing this song — it gives me hope for our future. It reminds me why we create in the first place.
