Devantier Rain x Tamaraebi Share New Single ‘MONSTER’
Berlin-based German-Cameroonian artist Devantier Rain teams up with Nigerian-born, London-based singer and songwriter Tamaraebi to deliver MONSTER, the opening track from his forthcoming album MELATONIN.
Out now on Lekker Collective, MONSTER blends rap with R&B and psychedelic soul textures, setting a reflective tone with stripped-back production and intimate lyrics that feel like a message never sent. I am a fan of Tamaraebi's honeyed tone and how it fits perfectfly with Devantier Rain's smooth, soulful vocals which glide nonchalantly over the warm production, beautifully exploring the emotional distance between two people who once felt close. MONSTER delves into the unsettling experience of watching someone you were once close now becoming a complete stranger. Accompanying their vocals we have a killer bass nicely intertwined with memorable guitars and psychedelic textures that come together to create an overall warm, laid-back atmosphere perfect for a relaxing weekend at home!
Speaking about the song, Devantier Rain said,
One of the most laid-back songs on the project, ‘Monster’ builds its atmosphere from the bare bones of its instrumental. It’s deeply personal, almost like a diary entry. I knew the song needed a shift in tone, and Tamaerebi’s verse added a whole new layer of intimacy.
Tamaraebi said,
This one’s a bit of a fever dream. We’d talked about making something for a while, and when he came to London, it just clicked. For me, Monster is about the chaos we create for ourselves — the beauty in surrendering to it. I just want it to find the people it’s meant for.
