This is a song about someone being pushed beyond their limits, struggling to put on a smile to go through their day. It shows a state of mind of wanting to be somewhere else and time than the where we currently are, a very relatable message especially for those struggling with the current state of the world. I am guilty of the same as sometimes I just want to get away from my reality and tend to dream of being somewhere else with no cares in the world. Step Too Far pairs Pearl's stunning vocals with Jazz and Chamber Pop elements, featuring warm brass elements with delicate piano keys, steady drum patterns, twangy guitars and captivating rhythms and elements that come together to create an overall warm, intimate atmosphere that gives a sense of solace and comfort, despite its heavy subject matter.
