CATBEAR Unveil New Single ‘Grow Up’
British duo CATBEAR, consisting of best friends Zoe and Sarah, share their brand new single Grow Up, an upbeat synthpop cut that fuses darkwave, post-punk elements with captivating lyrics!
The song documents the 30-something adult who hasn’t quite got their sh*t together, also addressing issues such as the threat of AI, the UK recession, oncoming environmental catastrophe, phone addiction and social anxiety. Grow Up is a playful exploration of the frustrating sense of helplessness felt by a ‘generation caught in between’—one that can vaguely recall a time before the internet and mobile phones, yet lacks the skills to code or develop apps, mend old clothes, or fix a leaky kitchen tap. A song that gives a glimpse inside the mind of an underachieving millenial, Grow Up is beautifully conveyed through those lush, expressive vocals which are backed by cool drum patterns, bright synths, captivating rhyhtms and a memorable driving beat that come together to create an overall warm, feel-good atmosphere that contrasts with the lyrical content.
Speaking about the song, CATBEAR said,
Plenty of songs are written about being a teenager, even about the progression into early adulthood, but hey, we’re in our 30s now. This is life in England in 2024 for us - maybe some people can relate.
