Devarrow Shares New Single ‘Kickin’
Canadian artist Devarrow returns with his brand new single Kickin, part of a double release (alongside In Time) which is out now via Paper Bag Records.
I am really enjoying the tone of his voice and how smooth, yet powerful his delivery is, beautifully drawing our attention to his storytelling. Kickin's captivating production really allows for his voice and backing vocals to stand out and that chorus got me singing along to it in no time. I am very fond of the pairing of acoustic and electric guitar riffs that are nicely paired with steady percussive elements and lively piano keys that build up in energy to enhance the emotion of his storytelling. The soaring electric guitar riffs are a pleasure to listen to and I like how the playful piano keys are intertwined with it, making the song stand out even more. Overall this is a song packed with soul and energy and is accompanied by a fun music video, directed by Riley Lamarche, that ties everything perfectly together.

The inception of Kickin’ is a bit murky, but the moment it became a full song is a strong and fond memory. The first half of the song came from some doodling in 2017 or so. I brought this to my band when we spent a long weekend demoing and workshopping songs at an old and frigid farmhouse in rural Nova Scotia ... We made a demo that weekend, which almost made the cut as the final version, but perfectionism got the best of me, and I re-recorded it at my home studio in 2020.
