Speaking about the song, Lenn says,
'renegade' was born out of a free therapy session with my co-writers where I could vent the frustration and helplessness I was feeling around that time. It's a song about realising someone isn't who you once thought they were, finally seeing the red flags that in all honesty were there from the beginning and resigning to the fact that you can't control how someone writes you into their story. 'renegade' is a really important song for me and the production set the tone for the rest of the EP, stylistically.
