Scottish singer-songwriter Blair Davie kicks off his 2023 with the wonderfully heartfelt new single To Miss You.
What I like the most about this song is its upbeat, uplifting energy and how euphoric the production, getting me in a good mood from the start. Blair Davie's rich, soaring vocals sing about how going through love, loss and heartbreak is a sign how much we care for others, a relatable message backed by an alluring pop-rock aesthetic. Apart from his vocals I am particularly fond of the intricate acoustic and electric guitar riffs which are seamlessly paired with punchy drums and cool rhythms that together create an overall warm, feel-good atmosphere perfect for a carefree weekend. I wrote To Miss You when I was miles away from home. It was the first time I’d been apart from my family for longer than a month and I felt this heavy weight of loneliness, in a new city where I barely knew anyone. Then a couple of weeks before heading home I met someone who showed me that it’s better to love and feel all the emotions that come with that, than to never feel at all. To Miss You is a reminder to myself that missing people and going through heartbreak, loss and finding love that makes it hurt when you’re apart can be beautiful things because they show how much we care for other humans.
