Say Anise Shares New Single ‘The Sea’

Say Anise, the moniker of London-based Folk/Pop singer and songwriter Emily Barnett, has just shared her brand new single The Sea, the second single from her upcoming EP.

This is an enchanting and dreamy piece of folk music written about the European refugee crisis. It depicts two different points of view with verses written from the perspective of a mother and child who have lost their home, and the chorus is from the point of view of the western observer, portraying their conflicting feelings of guilt, powerlessness and apathy. This is unfortunately something that keeps happening with people having to flee their countries and I like the way Say Anise addresses these issues through her music. I am a fan of her gorgeous, dreamy vocals and how they are nicely backed by intricate acoustic guitars, haunting harmonies, steady beat and lush strings that create an overall warm atmosphere perfect for a laid-back, reflective day.
