Eighty Ninety Share New Single ‘Stay Alive’

Eighty Ninety — the indie-pop project of NYC-based brothers Abner (vocals, production) and Harper (guitar, production) James — are back with yet another gorgeous offering called Stay Alive

The follow up to last month's alt-pop gem 2 Carat, Stay Alive is the latest gem to be lifted from their upcoming full-length debut album. I am a fan of Abner's dreamy, expressive vocals which sing about how one's mental health struggles can affect their relationships, shining a light on how the ones we love can help us get through the darkest moments in life. I am really enjoying how relatable and uplifting their storytelling is, beautifully delivered through Abner's lush vocals that are backed by intricate guitar riffs, cool rhythms and steady drum patterns that together create an overall warm, sun-soaked atmosphere that makes this song perfect for a laid-back summer's weekend. Check it out below!

Speaking about the song, they said,
"Stay Alive" is about how our struggles with mental health can affect our relationships and how the things we do to cope and the people we love — and who love us — can help to get us through life’s hardest moments. For my whole life, music has been one of the tools I turn to as a listener and a musician, but I’ve never directly addressed it in a song before. The song is a promise to be there for myself and an acknowledgement that the more grounded part of me knows that those feelings pass, and I'll make it through to the other side. My hope is that it can also be a loving reminder to anyone else going through a hard time — and a promise to our audience that through our music we are and will always try to be there to help provide comfort and joy to anyone who listens.
