La Faute Shares New Single ‘Blue Girl Nice Day’

La Faute, the moniker of Canadian visual artist, multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Peggy Messing, has just shared her brand new single Blue Girl Nice Day, the lead single and title track of her forthcoming debut album.

What I like the most about this song is how expressive and evocative La Faute's vocals sound, effortlessly capturing our attention to her storytelling. Blue Girl Nice Day is a song about how easily we can hurt each other without realising what are are truly capable of. This message is beautifully conveyed through La Faute's vocals which are accompanied by intricate guitar melodies that are subtly paired with delicate keys, a thumping beat, steady drum patterns and dreamy atmospherics that together create an overall warm, haunting atmosphere. Speaking about the song, La Faute said,
“Blue Girl Nice Day” was inspired by the Milgram Experiments of the 60s, in which subjects were told to give ever-increasing electric shocks to a “learner” who had to repeat word pairs: Blue/Girl, Nice/Day, Slow/Dance, Sweet/Taste etc. Subjects were shaken to find that they would obey an authority figure and give lethal shocks to the learner, following orders even against their own conscience. The song reflects on how easily we can betray and hurt each other, and how we don’t necessarily know ourselves and what we are capable of.
