Alt-rock band LOVER have just shared their brand new single Date Me or Die, the lead single to be taken from their upcoming debut album.
What I like the most about this song is how it is packed with confidence and energy, effortlessly capturing my attention throughout the song. We have touches of alt-rock seamlessly intertwined with harsh electronics and dance rhythms that together create an overall raw, somewhat aggressive, atmosphere perfect for headbanging and dancing your pain away. I am particularly fond of the gritty, confident vocals, punchy drum patterns and soaring guitar riffs. Date Me or Die is a song about trying to persuade someone to date them, declaring one's intention to harm them if they do not obey. It's a twisted, unbalanced mental state perfectly matched by its polished, edgy alt-rock production. Speaking about the song, lead singer Alexey said,
The lyrics for the song were written as if by someone's blessing in a couple of hours - I sat down at the table, thought about what I would like to say in moments of anger if I were even younger and more impatient, if all my thoughts and ideas were not subjected to caesura at such moments. Of course, elements of irony and deep reflection process were also added to the song, showing the impermanence of my beliefs and feelings that influence my expressive behavior. I am a mess – and, my, you can even hear how much I am happy about it!
