Specific Coast Shares New Single ‘I’m Just a Dog’
Specific Coast, the moniker of Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Matt Dune, has just shared his brand new single I'm Just a Dog, a warm indie-folk song out now via his own imprint, Cactus Coast Records.
Written about his journey as a struggling artist in Los Angeles, I'm Just a Dog shows how he felt seeing all his friends going to work and coming back home while he was at the apartment writing songs and waiting for them. This is a song about closing a chapter in his life where he had little faith in himself and his own music. I am really enjoying the touches of melancholia in the song which are nicely enhanced by his lush, expressive vocals which are backed by intricate guitar riffs seamlessly intertwined with steady drum patterns that create an overall warm and intimate atmosphere making the song perfect for an introspective day home alone. Speaking about the song, Specific Coast said,
When I first moved to Los Angeles, I had the privilege of sitting down with several music executives. I was told I was too nice to work in the music industry and that I should find a different career. I was heart broken. At that time, I was still searching for a full time job and remember sitting in my apartment just writing songs and waiting for my friends to get home from their jobs. I felt like a dog... just waiting for the front door to open. I stopped releasing original music and focused on finding a career. I held jobs in management, publishing, music supervision, in marketing for indie and major labels, etc. In 2021, I placed several songs in the hit Netflix series Ginny & Georgia. Since then, I'm making up for lost time! "I'm Just a Dog" is 9 years in the making. It feels like I'm closing a chapter in my life where I didn't believe in myself or my own music.
