Gidon Carmel x Amistat x Coby Grant Share New Single ‘The Ocean’
Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Gidon Carmel has just shared his brand new single The Ocean, a captivating indie-pop song.
Out now via recordJet and the third single from his latest concept album, GOABI, The Ocean was co-written and created by indie pop duo, Amistat, with vocal contribution from Australian singer-songwriter Coby Grant.
The Ocean is a gentle, uplifting and atmospheric interlude that glues together the Goabi narrative, Carmel’s concept album that centers on the fictional character Goabi the Alien, an intergalactic being who falls from the sky to a harsh fate on planet earth. This message is beautifully conveyed through Coby Grant's smooth and expressive vocals which soar effortlessly over the polished indie-pop production. Apart from his vocals, I am particularly fond of the intricate acoustic guitar-based melodies which are seamlessly intertwined with cool drum patterns, together enhancing the song's warm atmosphere.
Accompanying the release, Gidon Carmel has shared its striking music video, directed by Mayra Wallraff and Alex Brechow, which perfectly embodies the song's message and emotion. Check it out below!
Speaking about the song, Gidon Carmel said,
It’s the moment where Goabi feels a sense of kinship to his new surroundings on earth, where he’s reminded of a feeling of his home – even though he is so far away from it, so it’s mostly a strange illusion.
