Iris Gold Shares New Single ‘Crushed Velvet’

London/Copenhagen-based singer and songwriter Iris Gold has just shared her brand new single Crushed Velvet, a funky, Prince-inspired track out now via Bay Street Records.

A collaboration with award-winning singer, songwriter, musician, producer, and Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart, Crushed Velvet is inspired by Prince and how much Iris loves his voice and music. This is the fourth single to be taken from her upcoming album, Girl Pick Up Your Drum, and it oozes with carefree, feel-good energy that is guaranteed to brighten up your day. I am really fond of her confident vocal delivery which glides beautifully over the upbeat melodies packed with killer guitar riffs, cool electronics and punchy drum patterns that create an overall rockin' and funky feel-good atmosphere that is effortlessly enhanced by its captivating music video, directed by Franck Lahoui, which you can check out below!

Speaking about the song, Iris Gold said,
The first time I saw Prince in concert he blew my mind, his husky low voice, his falsetto, his dance moves, his band and the way he made me feel… like he was talking directly to me in between songs… was out of this world. I was telling Dave about it and he said ‘let’s write a song about that experience and the way it made me feel’, I had a huge crush on Prince “crushed like velvet”.
Stewart commented about working with Iris on this new track,
Iris and I are both massive Prince Fans and when she told me about the first Prince concert she attended, I asked her everything about that experience. Then we put it into a song split into two sections: the A section like a rush of adrenaline and the B section a cool Prince groove.
