Canadian, self-proclaimed “dread-pop” artist Mylo Quinn — better known as heavy metal musician and sci-fi author Quinn McGraw — has just shared his brand new single Light, a captivating piece of emo hip-hop music out now via Stray Vessel Recordings.
For this song, Mylo Quinn teamed up with fellow artist Joel Jovan whose gritty, passionate vocal delivery fits perfectly with Mylo's smoother, ethereal-like tone. Light is a relatable song reflecting about one's own mortality, sharing a message to listen to our hearts. I am really enjoying Mylo and Joel's vocals together and how they are backed by a memorable production packed with an infectious beat nicely intertwined with dreamy piano chords and a soaring electric guitar that create an overall warm, somewhat melancholic, atmosphere perfect for an introspective day home alone. There was a period in 2020 when I was reflecting a lot on my own mortality… It made me wonder whether or not I’d die with a heart full of love and passion, when the journey can sometimes leave me feeling broken down and defeated… It’s as much about temptation as it is redemption, while knowing the whole time there is no clear path forward if we can’t tap into, and listen, to our hearts.
