PENNY Shares New Single ‘Outside’

Fast-rising British singer and songwriter PENNY has just shared her brand new single Outside, a warm, indie-electronica song taken from her debut EP, My Secret Powers, which is out now via Empty Streets Records / Because Music.

Outside is an effortless electro-pop ballad that finds PENNY singing about being tangled up in jealousy, and how sometimes, it can be mistaken for lust. I am really enjoying her smooth, emotive vocal delivery and haunting harmonies that instantly set the tone for a chilled out piece of electro-pop music. I am particularly fond of the warm rhythms that are nicely paired with a steady beat and delicate piano chords that create an overall warm and intimate atmosphere perfect for a relaxing day at home.

Outside is accompanied by a music video created by Eloise Shaw, an experimental visual artist, and one of PENNY’s best friends. The video features a surreal sequence of beautiful 3D animations taking you on a mind-bending, captivating journey. Speaking of the video, Eloise said,
Feeling like you’re always on the outside can leave you feeling deflated and unworthy but hopefully, this video shows that there can be beauty in the moments of solace and quiet.

Speaking of the single, PENNY said:
It feels like so long ago since I wrote Outside, but usually, when I write something, it’s because I need to find a way to process my emotions – it’s kind of like therapy to me. The song is all about jealousy, and how I became borderline obsessed with my ex’s ex. I found myself wondering whether my jealousy towards her was actually lust - the whole “do I want to be you, or be with you?” thing. However, in writing the song and looking at the situation through an ‘outside’ perspective, I came to realise how ridiculous this was, and that I am really quite perfect just the way I am.
