Pikes Shares New Single ‘Am I A Whale?’
Pikes, the moniker of Swedish singer, songwriter and producer Christoffer Ling, has just shared his brand new single Am I A Whale?, a lovely indie-pop song taken from his new album, Manasollasa, out now via ART:ERY Music Group.
I am really enjoying how smoothly Pike's expressive vocals glide over the upbeat production and beautifully connect the listeners to his relatable story of not feeling understood by your partner. A problem in communication within a relationship usually leads to frustration and its ultimate demise and I like how easily Pikes captures the feelings of going through such issues. This message is wrapped around a bright indie/electro-pop production wiht captivating rhythms nicely paired with bright synths which create an overall warm, feel-good atmosphere. Check it out below!
Speaking about the song, Pikes said,
A song about not feeling understood by your partner. Sometimes I felt like a different species than them. I think it’s easy to get caught up in what language you speak with your partner. Giving them what you think they need, rather than listening to them and giving them what they tell you they need. It’s funny because I think this whole album is, in a way, about the breakup that took place 5 months ago. But the album was sort of finished 10 months ago. Probably as a way to process and prepare for the inevitable.
