Areej Shares Evocative Debut Single ‘Guided’
West London-born Moroccan-Sudanese newcomer Areej has just shared her evocative debut single Guided, taken from her upcoming debut EP set to arrive in early 2022.
I am loving Areej's smooth, soulful vocals which glide effortlessly over the infectious production. Out now via Payday Records, Guided is a song about finding the light after a gloomy day, about appreciating the simple things in life. This positive message is wrapped around a memorable blend of fresh beats, soul and jazz influences packed with steady percussion nicely intertwined with haunting sax riffs and spectral percussion that create an overall warm, feel-good atmosphere that oozes laid-back days.
Accompanying the release, Areej has shared its official music video, directed by Areej and acclaimed director Charlie Rees of Fuego Films (George The Poet, Dan D’Lion, Fekky), which sees the pair work together to unite their unique forms of storytelling. Check it out below!
Speaking about the song, Areej said,
Despite being in a place of doom and gloom, which is depicted through the opening verse, the message and meaning behind my lyrics convey my gratitude for the simple and meaningful things in life.
