Finnish rapper-turned-singer-songwriter Jesse Markin has teamed up with American artist Akua Naru to deliver a sonorous new fight song called Exodus, out now via VILD Recordings and Pop-Up Records.
I am really enjoying this blend of indie-pop, rap, r&b and African folk which creates quite a memorable soundscape that won me over from the start. Exodus is a captivating song about moving forward, celebrating the human spirit and its resilience. This empowering message is wrapped around a slick and textured production that blends organic instrumentation with electronic elements. I am really enjoying Markin's smooth vocals that glide effortlessly over the warm production and how Akua Naru's rap verse really makes the song stand out even more. Have a listen to this powerful gem below!
Speaking about the song, Jesse Markin said,
‘Exodus’ is a song about perseverance. That undying flame that keeps pushing you forward despite the odds and how they are stacked against you. The desire to live up to your full potential as a human in a place where obstacles are found way too often. A lot of times I’ve asked myself: is this worth it? How much further? Are we there yet? In this song I tried to put myself into that mind state of such hopelessness and see how one can still find hope.
Akua says,
Jesse is a creative working to liberate through his artistry. This is something that resonates with me deeply. ‘Exodus’ is an extension of this. He speaks to our power to move forward, carve our own spaces, and seize the day. A call to action. A celebration of the human spirit and it's capacity for strength and resilience.
Exodus comes ahead of his second full length record, NOIR, which comes out 11th June 2021.
