All The Queen’s Horses Shares New Single ‘The Ides of March’
All The Queen's Horses, the dark indie project by Irish singer and songwriter Sean William Murphy, has just shared his brand new single The Ides Of March, the latest single to be taken from his upcoming debut album, The Dark Below & The Isle Of Dogs, set to arrive in September.
I am loving the tone of his vocals and how they are packed with raw, honest emotion that effortlessly connects the listener to his storytelling. The Ides Of March is an intensely sad and touching ballad, sparsely instrumented yet very cinematically-epic and yet fragile and broken. You can feel the vulnerability pouring from his vocals and I am loving how the warm production allows for the emotion of his heartfelt lyrics to soar. I am particularly fond of the way the emotive piano chords are intertwined with lush strings that create a warm and intimate atmosphere that sounds perfect for an introspective day home alone. Check it out below!
Speaking about the song, All The Queen's Horses said,
I wrote this song as a clear allegory to The Ides of March and all the turbulence, misfortune and omens attributed to the Ides of March (March 15, the 74th day in the Roman calendar). It was the deadline for the Romans to settle debts. It is also the date of Julius Caesar's assassination and a resulting civil war. The date is synonymous with a variety of significant unfortunate events, bad luck and bad omens. The song is very simple. I tried to create a situation with someone who has always had a lot of trouble, bad luck and misfortune. Who carries it to others who have had to carry it and who he thinks can and will help him. I have tried to show the devastating effect that misfortune, debt and conflict have on their lives and what makes the Ides of March an endless sea of misfortune and bad luck.
