Malaki Shares New Single ‘Someone Like You 2’

Rising Irish rapper Malaki  has just shared hiis brand new single Someone Like You 2, his take on Van Morrison's Someone Like You.

The song was originally created in homage to the Irish legend for his 75th birthday and is an inspired update of the classic soul tune. I am particularly fond of the emotive piano chords and how effortless Malaki's rap flow is. This is a modern-day love story and I love how honest and relatable Malaki's verses are. I am also enjoying how Malaki incorporated samples of Van Morrison's voice alongside Matthew Harris' vocals, making the chorus quite infectious and perfect to sing along to. This is a great song for those laid-back days home alone and I think you guys will enjoy it too. Someone Like You 2 is a gorgeous piece of conscious, honest Hip-Hop with raw emotion, effortless flow and meaningful verses. Check out this gem below!

Speaking about the song, Malaki said,

Myself and Matthew spent quite a while deciding the best route to take. We chose the track because of its simplicity, and that it was full of themes I discuss regularly. I made the decision to write my own verses to allow for change. The song is over 30 years old, so I wanted to put my own modern-day-love-story spin on it, while incorporating samples of Van Morrison’s voice alongside Matthew’s vocals. When I first heard the track, I was 16 years old and in the car with my mother. I turned on the radio and these beautiful piano chords seeped through the speakers. I was taken by it straight away. Ever since then, it’s been a favourite song of mine.
