San James Shares ‘Otherwise’ Music Video
Canadian singer and songwriter San James has just unveiled the official music video for her brand new single Otherwise, a song about struggling with depression and anxiety. I am really enjoying her heartfelt message, that it is OK to be vulnerable, that we can overcome the hard times in life and that there's no shame in asking for help. This positive message is backed by a lovely indie-pop production packed with driving guitar riffs beautifully intertwined with emotive piano keys and steady percussion.
The song is now accompanied by a striking music video which was directed by Gaelle Baumans and stars Tania Lapointe-Dupont and Marilyse Senécal. Check it out below!
Speaking about the song, San James said,
“Otherwise" is basically about telling someone - myself in this case, but not only - that it’s perfectly OK to feel vulnerable and that hardship can be overcome... even though it might not come easy. It's never a one-way ticket.I would like people to feel like they are allowed to talk to one other when they’re going through things - good or bad. There’s no shame in asking for help or talking about mental health, for example. We’re all human and we all have inner shadows. So this is me walking the talk.I tried to tell that story without the song being sad or depressing. We just made positive it instead, and made it sound like something you almost can dance to; some sort of victory march. I wanted it to make people feel like even though it might not come easy, they got this.I hope it reaches you well.
